The message of this book is profound in its simplicity: As Your Conscious Awareness Expands, Addictions Dissolve.

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this book: your freedom

Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes – Mahatma Gandhi

There is not a doubt in my mind, after working in the field of addiction for more than 25 years, that conventional approaches to recovery, while assisting you to make many adjustments, still fail to open up to you what you are missing most. Everywhere I go, I find people who are calling out from the deepest part of their Being for a more complete and fulfilling experience of themselves. They have often been using alcohol and prescribed or un-prescribed substances in the absence of the very experience for which their heart yearns; a new definition of themselves and a new meaning.

The pages of this book are written to assist you in defining and living the grander experience of your Self that you have been seeking. In building a life deeply aligned with your purpose, you will come to a new and powerful understanding of your Self and specifically, you will discover how to be free.

Self that you have been seeking. In building a life deeply aligned with your purpose, you will come to a new and powerful understanding of your Self and specifically, you will discover how to be free.

The meaning of your life is the meaning you have given to it and for as long as that meaning has gone unquestioned by you, it has gone unchanged. Your life is the experience of yourself you have come to believe is YOU.

Your experience of addiction, like some of your other experiences, will have genuinely been your earnest attempt to look for more, more of YOU.

Your addictive behaviors are reminders. That’s all they are. They are reminders of the more, you haven’t yet found. You have been searching for YOU, for your very Being. It’s not that you don’t know who you are, but you have forgotten to re-member how to be the all that you are. You have forgotten that you are Infinite Consciousness, pure potential.

The various twists and turns of life, and the role you have learned to play in it have all been instrumental in your forgetfulness. Your addictive behaviors were part and parcel of that. Yet, oddly enough, they’ve also been part and parcel of your deep desire to find YOU. That’s why it’s been hard to know the most advantageous route to take. You’ve been trying to disentangle your Self from the fantasy you originally made up about yourself, without even knowing that that has been causing your frustration.
