The Author’s Journey
To say that I was drawn to the ideas is obvious but, at the age of eighteen becoming nineteen, I was too full of myself to be serious about real Work, identified as I was with music, philosophy and the aesthetic life. A dual inner-life situation existed at that time–one part being wholly involved in “artistic” pursuits, narrow-mindedly judgmental regarding the “lesser” roles of science and “ordinary” world matters–the other part being intensely interested in spiritual questions, ESP, human potential and, secretly, in love with the discoveries being made by modern science. The Work books which I had accumulated and read with passion and repetitiveness, were a bridge between these two views, offering possible understandings and perspectives that, young and immature as I was, stood out to me like a beacon, high lighting the possible fulfillment of a deep yearning.
