rules, but nobody is actually aware of them!
The other type of spirituality is not a belief system, but a psychotechnology of consciousness transformation.
Briefly, if the two of you are working together, this likely means that, sooner or later, one or both of you will fall into (a) a state of pure Witnessing mindfulness, also called the pure “I-I,” True Self, or core I AMness; and then perhaps, following that, (b) a state beyond even the True Self into a nondual Suchness, Thusness, or Isness, the pure headless, thoughtless, total awareness of unity consciousness—not just an unwavering Awareness of the Total Painting of All That Is, but a nondual oneness with the Total Painting of All That Is. In both of those cases, the small, conventional “I” will still arise and still be present—it’s just that you are no longer exclusively identified with it. You are identified with your own True Self or Real Self, or you are identified with the Supreme Identity, the oneness of your deepest being with Spirit itself and the entire universe at large in nondual Thusness. But that True Self or nondual Suchness still has to express itself through a relative vehicle, which means it will look through the Form of whatever conventional self you have—along with its hidden maps. We already saw that you can experience a headless, nondual unity state and still be at virtually any level of development (amber, orange, green, etc.).
When that highest level of Growing Up is added to the highest state of Waking Up—namely, nondual unity consciousness—the result is a full and complete Enlightenment, combining the best and brightest of both of these fundamental paths of human growth and development, resulting in what could, with little exaggeration, be called “super-human.” For the first time in history, these two fundamental flows of human development have been brought together, offering individuals an almost super-human potential for discovering their very deepest and highest dimensions of being. When both you and your partner ground yourselves in either pure Witnessing (turiya) or ultimate nondual Suchness (turiyatita), you will vastly expand and deepen the basis of shared relationship between you—from a “conventional we” to a “Spiritual we.” You will also increase the likelihood that, even if the two of you are at different levels of conventional development, your relationship might still succeed.
If we choose the consciousness route, if we choose to be aware of these factors, it’s important to take it nice and easy, slow and steady, gently if firmly. It’s very easy to get a “metaphysical hernia” trying to lift too much of this material all at once. Rather, take a specific topic or issue—say, the 6-to-8 structures/levels, or the 4 or 5 major states/realms, or perhaps a bit of shadow work, or focusing on the quadrants—and work on it easily and loosely, starting with 15–30 minutes a day, and slowly expanding from there. Don’t try and include a practice that crams all of these factors into place all at once.
