In the commercial spiritual arena, there are the ‘prosperity consciousness’ seminars, ‘speaking to angels’ workshops, and the like, which hoodwink people into believing that it is possible to bypass the hard grind of spiritual discipline in order to get something for nothing.
I believe that everything that is incomplete when a person moves beyond the physical experience remains embedded in the subtle layers of the Earth until a soul descends to retrieve it, every unsatisfied hope, every unfulfiled ability—which brings me to the main point of this treatise, the need for further human experience to clarify, develop and extend various strands of your individual spiritual development. This necessitates further forays into the dense world of matter to complete any unfinished business and to enhance the individual creative abilities that have been introduced but not fully explored.
Without a spiritual dimension to their lives, many people believe that they are beholden to no one but themselves and this leads to the ego building up a false sense of importance. This is the great issue facing many spiritually-minded people today, for as their understanding, ability, and influence increases, the need for true humility increases also. No one, faced with the need to relinquish personal power of any kind, does so easily, that is, until the recognition comes from the deep places within the heart, that all power resides with the Creator.
We are all rightly confined to the human experience, limited to easily understood experiences that connect up. Imagine being linked to one hundred radio channels simultaneously bombarding your attention and you will understand why there are veils to memory that prevent many earlier experiences of this life intruding on your present circumstances. These filters enable us to have some sense of proportion, spared what we are not yet required to know, and what it is no longer necessary to remember, so that the essentials of each day are achievable and can be integrated into the fabric of just one life at a time.
Absolute light within the solar system is at a single point at the centre of the Sun, and absolute dark is at the extremities, with eternal light forever making love to eternal night. Yet, there is nowhere that light is not, and nowhere that dark is not. They are compelled to work together always. However, imbalance is inevitable, for without the need for re-unification, no creative activy could happen at all.
Some people call these two components of consciousness, the involutionary and the evolutionary. The reach of the dark, the involutionary, is the slowest vibrational rate achieved at all points at the furthest distance from the Source of Light, and these points increase in number as the process continues. So what does ‘evolutionary’ actually mean? Which aspect is playing which role? We like to think that we are evolving, lifting ourselves up beyond past ignorance and overcoming the lower impulses that would drag us down and return us to our former bestial nature. We see the involutionary as the enemy holding us back. But is not the darkness evolving along with the light? In fact, our Sun is growing gradually weaker as it burns itself out, and the universe is expanding and creating more darkness, and that is how the unified ‘God’ wishes it to be. For this is one of the great paradoxes. The essence of light sacrifices itself to the darkness in order that those entities, including you and me, that lie within its compass, having infinite potential, can continue to achieve that potential.
Any continuing imbalance between the dark and the light, or between the two within the one, I define as karma.
The basic concept, integral to all future explanations, is that, for individual consciousness to descend from a subtle to a less compact realm, a source entity must identify a set of linked concentrations of creative intent, functioning as individual minds within it, and project these down, in turn, to a denser, slower level of itself.
Frankly, the thought of being contained in a succession of new human bodies, handing over my precious individuality, and restricted to the inflexible laws of this physical condition, with no power to act independently, when there is a vast universe out there to explore, appals me. Fortunately, it doesn’t happen that way. We are exactly where we are in the evolutionary flow, and I am certain that we can exercise our individual free will, always.
