The fifth instruction is the most difficult to follow: KEEP AN OPEN MIND I can’t over-emphasize the importance of keeping an open mind. Some people believe my method is a form of brainwashing. Nothing could be further from the truth. But it does involve counter-brainwashing and the reversal of beliefs that you may have held your entire life. What are the experts actually measuring? Is caffeine harmful? Can the body take it? My question is not about whether something can be tolerated by the body. My question is: “What is the point of taking it at all?” For me, alarm bells start ringing when people justify something by minimizing the negatives. Telling someone to limit their intake of an addictive drug is like telling someone that they can jump off the top of a cliff as long as they don’t fall more than a few metres. Your body can survive consuming junk, but that in itself is not a reason for doing so. Taste Do you recall your first experience of the taste? It was probably a cup of coffee. Most people remember that they really didn’t like the taste. It’s a bitter substance that tastes horrible. Your first experience of it was probably with milk and sugar to disguise the true taste. The fact is that your brain has taught your body to cope with the foul taste, so you can get the drug to which you have become addicted.
